Navigating the Symbiotic Frontier

Joint Project on AI emerged from the RE-CARE Network

navigating symbiotic frontier

May 7, 2026

A new international research project has emerged from the RE-CARE Network.

Principal Investigators of the project, Kunhao Yang from the Shibaura Institute of Technology in Tokyo and Markus Bohlmann from the University of Münster, are investigating the use of AI agents in philosophy education during times of crisis. The project is funded by AI inside Inc.

Key questions of the project are: What kind of human-machine interaction fosters philosophical reflection on crises? And what role do students’ perceptions of the technology play in this?

In the first phase, students will examine technological concepts related to “philosophizing” AI. In a second step, building on this foundation, an AI agent will be developed that follows principles of philosophy education while addressing crises such as migration or climate change. For example, the agent will present the problem at a philosophical level of abstraction and frame positions in a way that encourages debate. In the final step, this agent will be tested in a philosophy course, and this specific human-technology relation will be investigated.
